Justice
by Jimi Grigori
The clock will tick while shadows crawl and creep,
Above the beds where tired spirits sleep.
The promises of truth begin to fray,
Like morning mist that turns to sudden grey.
The hand of fate is cold and made of stone,
It leaves the weary standing all alone.
A crown of gold is cast into the deep,
A harvest that the broken never reap.
The stars are silent witnesses to grief,
They offer no reprieve and no relief.
The heavy chains of iron never break,
Despite the many vows the honest make.
The temple floor is worn by humble knees,
By those who beg for mercy on the seas.
But waves ignore the salt of every tear,
And pull the drowning down into their fear.
The ink is dry upon the ancient page,
A script that trapped the world within a cage.
The words of right are carved in shifting sand,
Beyond the reach of any human hand.
A hollow bell will ring across the square,
To call the ghosts who linger in despair.
They look for balance in a broken scale,
While every flickering light begins to fail.
The wolf is dressed in robes of purest white,
To hunt the weary in the dead of night.
The shepherd sleeps while shadows start to grow,
And hides the truth that only martyrs know.
Beneath the soil where fallen heroes lie,
The roots of bitterness begin to cry.
They grew from seeds of promise long ago,
But only thorns and thistles start to show.
The golden gates are locked with rusted steel,
To hide the pain that time can never heal.
The keys are lost within a deep abyss,
A cold and dark and everlasting kiss.
The winter wind will howl a lonely song,
For all the years the weak have suffered wrong.
It carries ash from fires burned to grey,
As every hope is slowly stripped away.
The mirror shows a face of cracked regret,
A debt that none have ever managed yet.
The glass is dark and clouded by the rain,
Reflecting nothing but a world of pain.
The sun will set behind the jagged hill,
And leave the valley frozen, dark, and still.
The phantom law is nothing but a ghost,
A hollow dream when needed by the most.
